Huge Bipartisan Support!

Ridgewood NJ, in a striking 84-9 vote, the Senate took its first major legislative step of the year by advancing the Laken Riley Act, defying claims that former President Donald Trump’s legislative priorities are “radical.” This decisive vote suggests growing bipartisan alignment on certain immigration issues and opens the door for broader immigration reform.
About the Laken Riley Act
The bill mandates federal detention for undocumented immigrants arrested for theft. Proponents argue that this law could have prevented the tragic murder of Laken Riley in Georgia. The bill’s namesake was brutally killed by Jose Ibarra, an undocumented immigrant who was released from custody in New York before committing the heinous crime.
Who Opposed the Bill?
The nine senators who voted against the motion represent the far-left fringe of the Democratic Party, underscoring the bill’s widespread bipartisan appeal.
A Path to Broader Immigration Reform
The overwhelming support for the Laken Riley Act signals a promising pathway for bipartisan immigration legislation. With such strong backing, immigration reform may not need to be forced through budget reconciliation, which requires only a 51-vote Senate majority. Instead, lawmakers could pass it through the regular legislative process, fostering transparency and wider consensus.
What’s Next for Congress?
This bipartisan momentum gives Republicans an opportunity to push forward other key legislative items, including comprehensive border security measures. Meanwhile, the Trump tax cut extension bill, another high-priority agenda item, may be reserved for the reconciliation process to ensure swift passage.
Why This Matters
The Senate’s resounding support for the Laken Riley Act reflects a unified call for stronger accountability and public safety. As immigration policy takes center stage, the question is no longer whether reform will happen, but how quickly Congress can act to address pressing issues at the border and within the immigration system.

The folks with the Andy Kim signs around here must be proud.
The headline for this article is misleading. The fact is that the Senate voted for cloture as Democrats believe the bill should be debated and amended. Part of the problem that everyday Americans have is that mainstream/legacy media, streaming news channels, print media, radio personalities, blogs, and more continue to feed false impressions to the public.
Let’s call this what it is – a cloture vote. They did not vote for the bill – they voted for cloture.
Accuracy is something every American should push for.
Is this a distinction without a difference. Does the bill move to being law the same as if the voted for it.
ha ha.
all of a sudden you are for accuracy in reporting when your corrupt Democrats are called out.
You are just as bad as they are.
And the bill passed the Senate yesterday! On to the house for vote..
We don’t need any new laws. Get rid of illegals and they can return through legal means.
