Ridgewood NJ, SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule has successfully delivered four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) in a crucial NASA crew-swap mission. This long-awaited arrival will allow two stranded U.S. astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, to finally return home after spending nine months in orbit due to issues with Boeing’s Starliner capsule.

Smooth SpaceX Docking Marks a New Chapter

After launching from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Friday, the Crew-10 team docked with the ISS at 12:04 a.m. ET (2:04 p.m. AEST) on Sunday. The crew, representing the U.S., Japan, and Russia, was greeted with warm embraces by the seven-member ISS team, including Wilmore and Williams.

A Long-Awaited Return for Stranded Astronauts

Wilmore and Williams, both veteran NASA astronauts and retired Navy test pilots, were originally set to return months ago. However, technical problems with Boeing’s Starliner capsule forced NASA to bring it back empty, stranding them on the ISS.

Now, they are scheduled to depart the ISS on Wednesday at 4 a.m. ET (6 p.m. AEST) aboard another Crew Dragon capsule, along with fellow NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov.

The return flight has become a political talking point, with Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump claiming—without evidence—that the previous administration had abandoned Wilmore and Williams for political reasons.

Crew-10: The Next ISS Team

The new arrivals will remain on the ISS for six months, conducting research and maintenance alongside the station’s existing crew. The Crew-10 team includes:

A Roller Coaster Mission Comes to an End

For Williams, who has spent nearly a year in space, the return home is long overdue. “It’s been a roller coaster for them, probably a little bit more so than for us,” she said, referring to her family. She’s eager to reunite with her loved ones and her two dogs.
