Twp. of Washington NJ, on Wednesday January 22, 2025 the Township of Washington Police Department was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Beech Street for a reported suspicious package. The package was a brown cardboard box which came from an overseas address and was unexpected by the resident. Due to the nature of the call, Beech Street was closed and nearby houses were evacuated. Washington Township Fire Department, Washington Township Ambulance, Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, Bergen County Sheriffs K9, Bergen County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad and Bergen County Hazmat were dispatched as well.
After an investigation, it was determined that the package was an unexpected item that was sent from a third party. The Township of Washington Police Department want to thank all the assisting agencies as well as the residents for evacuating quickly and listening to the Officers making the evacuations happen smooth.
If you see a suspicious package
• DO NOT open or shake it.
• DO NOT carry or show to others. DO NOT bring to the Police Department.
• DO NOT sniff, touch, or taste.
• DO alert others in the area.
• Create a list of persons in the room where the package was received.
