Point Pleasant NJ, according to NJ Transit a teen died after being struck by a NJ Transit train in Point Pleasant Beach on Sunday afternoon. NJ Transit says a train that departed Long Branch shortly after 3:45 p.m. that was bound for Bay Head struck the child at the Forman Avenue crossing.
The victim was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The age of the victim was unknown as of Sunday night. No other reported injuries to the passengers and crew on board the train.
NJ Transit said the train that hit the pedestrian was due into Bay Head at 4:36 p.m. Service into and out of Bay Head was halted Sunday evening. Train crossings south of Arnold Avenue to Route 35 were closed for about three hours while authorities investigated at the Forman Avenue crossing, Point Pleasant Beach police said. They reopened about 7:30 p.m. after the on-site investigation was finished and the train was moved.
Point Pleasant Beach police, NJ Transit Police and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating. Point Pleasant Beach police said the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was leading the investigation.
NJ Transit did not release any further information on the juvenile, including the victim’s age or gender.
