RIDGEWOOD — From Gore Vidal to Barbie, King George III to the Rolling Stones, teenagers from around the Garden State tested their knowledge on an eclectic array of history questions Saturday in an academic competition at Ridgewood High School.

All hands were on buzzers at the inaugural run of the New Jersey History Bee and Bowl, with some 200 students from 22 schools quizzed on topics from George Washington to Washington, D.C.
“Founder David Madden, a Ridgewood high school graduate, described the competition as “more ‘Jeopardy!’ than ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.’ ” He said some 1,000 questions were prepared for the event, ranging from the Stone Age to the Middle East, classic movies to styles of dress.”
