Edgewater NJ, in a heartbreaking turn of events, authorities have confirmed the identity of the pedestrian tragically struck and killed by a vehicle in Edgewater over the weekend.
The victim has been identified as Hyo Sang, an 87-year-old resident of the borough. Police responded to the scene on Dempsey Avenue around 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, where they found Sang beneath the vehicle that had struck her. Despite efforts to save her, including the prompt response of Cliffside Park ambulance and Holy Name paramedics, Sang was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center Emergency Department Trauma Unit, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
The loss of life in such circumstances is always deeply saddening, and our thoughts and condolences go out to Sang’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and authorities have assured the public that the investigation is ongoing. The vehicle involved in the crash has been identified as a 2016 Ford Escape XLT driven by a 58-year-old man.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance, both for pedestrians and motorists alike. As the investigation unfolds, we hope for answers and accountability, and we urge everyone to exercise caution and care while navigating our roadways.

RIP
Not sure of the circumstances but….
Pedestrians have the right of way, but that does not mean they can stare at the road and walk into traffic. 3x yesterday in the CBD on one drive I observed this. Yes… right of way to become a hood ornament.
Whenever you interrupt a sentence with “but” you automatically invalidate everything that comes before it. At least you eventually revealed how you really feel. And no, you didn’t see three people walk into traffic with their eyes glued to the road yesterday. So you’re not only an a-hole but a liar as well.
But…. let me tell you something BUTTHEAD…. get your head out of your butte… you must have been one of the morons jumping in front of the cars…
Oooh, oh, they were jumping in front of the cars. And can you give us all a better description of these mischievous little creatures? Were they wearing funny little hats? What color were they? Blue? Pointy little ears maybe? Your imagination is the limit!
Very tragic, condolences to the family.
As for some pedestrian folks in RW who behave like they own the street and walk straight into incoming traffic at a stop sign I wish there would be sign that said: “Even though it is your right of way in a Stop sign, be aware that there could be stupid people behind the wheel who may not respect the sign. You won’t win the battle with a multi ton vehicle. Use logic and understand that life is a fragile thing.”
This is absolutely true. It’s also absolutely true that you, as the stupid driver that blows through that stop sign and kills that pedestrian, will be going to prison for manslaughter.
WTF are you talking about? Are you high? Accusing me of being a stupid driver who blows Stop signs? You will never be a better driver than me. I value life on foot or behind the wheel. You on the other hand would probably walk into a moving vehicle so you can prove a point. Good luck.
That’s a lot of words for a sign. It’s common sense and nothing that Darwinism won’t eventually solve. Perhaps it can be one of those things taught in school, like not walking the streets dressed in all BLACK after dusk.
