Two Bronx Men Arrested in Armed Late Night Carjacking in Twp. of Washington

Twp. of Washington NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of DARIEL PEREZ-GRULLON (DOB: 8/30/1999; single; unemployed) and LUIS GUZMAN-ENCARNACION (DOB: 05/23/1999; single; employed as a kitchen worker) of the Bronx, NY on carjacking-related charges. These arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love, the Washington Township Police Department under the direction of Chief Richard Skinner, and the Teaneck Police Department under the direction of Chief Glenn O’Reilly.

During a two-month-long investigation by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigation Squad and the Washington Township and Teaneck Police Departments, DARIEL PEREZ-GRULLON was identified as a suspect in multiple armed carjackings that occurred in Bergen County in March and April of 2022. PEREZ-GRULLON and LUIS GUZMAN-ENCARNACION were also identified as suspects in a conspiracy to commit a carjacking in Bergen County in May 2022.

On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the New York City Police Department arrested GUZMAN-ENCARNACION without incident at his place of employment in Manhattan, NY. Later that same evening, PEREZ-GRULLON was arrested outside of an associate’s residence in the Bronx, NY.

PEREZ-GRULLON was charged with first-degree promoting organized street crime, N.J.S.A. 2C:33-30(a); two counts of first-degree carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2(a)(2); second-degree eluding, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-2(b); three counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4(a) and 2C:39-4(d); three counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(b) and N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(d); second-degree conspiracy to commit carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2/N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2(a)(2); two counts of third-degree hindering his own detention/apprehension, N.J.S.A. 2C:29-3b(1); third-degree aggravated assault (accomplice liability), N.J.S.A. 2C:2-6/N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b)(2); and fourth-degree theft of movable property, N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3(a).

GUZMAN-ENCARNACION was charged with second-degree conspiracy to commit carjacking, N.J.S.A. 2C:5-2/N.J.S.A. 2C:15-2(a)(2).

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
