Ridgewood NJ, the long-closed Van Neste Square bus station has been removed as part of an ongoing effort to enhance the downtown area. The Village Council, in collaboration with the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) and the Central Business District Advisory Committee, is working to select a permanent replacement that aligns with Ridgewood’s historic charm.
Temporary Bus Shelter Installed
While plans for a new permanent structure are in development, a temporary bus shelter has been installed to serve commuters. The Village is also actively working with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to secure funding for the project.
Village Manager Addresses Concerns
Amid speculation about the design of the replacement shelter, Village Manager Keith Kazmark refuted reports suggesting the new structure would be a basic three-sided glass shelter.
“Multiple assessments showed the structure could not be saved. We are working with the DOT on grant funding for a replacement structure with some nice amenities to complement the downtown.”
Looking Ahead: Aesthetic & Functional Upgrades
The goal of the new Van Neste Square bus shelter is to provide both functionality and visual appeal, ensuring it integrates seamlessly into Ridgewood’s historic downtown.
Stay tuned for updates as the Village Council and HPC finalize design plans and funding sources.

Looks great. Clean and simple. Just take the free ones from NJ Transit.
Yes. Take the free ones and stop spending money, Siobhan!
None of you understand economics like Sleepy Evan does.
Sad!
You just bond it.
Free money.
Just put a garbage can there it’s amazing why it took so long to remove that whole building. That place was so disgusting.
Loads of conflicting reports on what’s going on up there. The deputy mayor said in a quote on northjersey.com that it would be a three sided structure. Now the manager is saying it won’t be a three sided structure WTF? Does anybody really know what time it is?
Who’s in charge? Pamela Perron says one thing and Keith Kazmar says another. WTF?
Pam is in charge. Dirty Paulie is nothing but a stooge.
Very out of character for the village. Needs more pee and drugs.
That’s about the size of a shoebox…
The standard NJ Transit bus stop stand is all that is needed. Build an enclosed structure and it only invites illegal activity and unsanitary conditions. It also becomes a money pit having to maintain. This is a great opportunity for the council to make a sensible decision to use the free bus stands given the mounting financial crisis in the village.
It’s a bus stop forGod’s sake. Why does the HPC and the other committee have to get involved in this. Just put up the goddamn free shelter.
HPC intervention is unnecessary and a waste of resources. Next thing you know they’ll be having to weigh in on what kind of sewer grate covers are used. Give it a rest.
Exactly let New Jersey transit pay for a little building on that site. The village doesn’t have the funds for this shit. They still never replaced the windows at the train station. Why don’t they worry about that, instead of putting plexiglass off the window? What a screwup, where did all that money go That was big money and it never replaced the windows. Someone got greased big time, and if they didn’t, they’re even more stupid than we thought.
a VC full of nuts, elected by a town full of nuts, are rocking their nutty brains for a 10ft square space that is not worth peanuts. to all the nuts: it’s a bus stop, where a bus stops for 2 mins to pickup bus riders throughout the day. repeat after me and you’ll find the best solution.
Let’s see how long it takes for this little site to turn out to look like garbage, they’ll be writing on the glass, garbage roll over the place,
