Ridgewood NJ, Bumble founder-CEO is out after an 82% decline in its share price from its 2021 IPO. Zoomers prefer IRL meetings, and Tinder is losing paying subscribers. Wall Street’s love affair with the love/affair business is over. A recent Axios/Generation Lab survey of college and graduate students across the United States revealed some interesting insights about young people’s attitudes toward dating apps:

  • 79% of the surveyed college and graduate students reported that they don’t use any dating apps, not even as infrequently as once a month.
  • Among dating apps, Tinder was the most popular, with 12% of respondents stating that they used it at least monthly.
  • The majority of young people on college campuses prefer to meet potential partners in person, indicating a preference for traditional, face-to-face interactions.
  • Many students expressed concerns about the impact of dating apps on the dating scene, with some feeling that these apps have negatively affected self-confidence and often lead to casual hookups.
  • Beliefs were ranked as the most important factor when considering potential partners, even more important than professional goals or physical appearance.
  • Another Generation Lab poll found that a significant number of college students wouldn’t consider going on a date with someone who had different political beliefs, based on the 2020 presidential election.

The findings suggest that while dating apps are widely available and marketed to young adults, many college students are opting for more traditional ways of meeting people and forming connections, such as through social events, classes, or mutual friends. This survey sheds light on the evolving landscape of dating preferences among young people.
