Newark NJ, New Jersey Transit Police Lieutenant Miano was supervising a uniformed detail of detectives at stations in the Oranges. At Orange Station, Miano checked in on a detective and noticed this small kitten being fed by passing commuters. The stray kitten climbed Miano’s leg and was lifted into his arms. As Miano departed to complete his duties, he consulted with his family. They decided if it was still there when he returned, he would take the kitten home.
Unfortunately, when Miano returned, the kitten was gone. A concerned detective had contacted Orange Animal Control. Through Orange Police dispatch, Miano tracked the kitten to a shelter in Newark. He waited 7 days to ensure no owner returned looking for the kitten. After seven days, Miano and his daughter returned to the pound and took the kitten home.
They named the kitten “E.B.”. It is short for “East Bound” as it was discovered on the East Bound platform. Today, 3 years later, East Bound still lives with Lieutenant Miano.
Today is an important day to raise awareness. Far too often, kittens are abandoned at shelters, or left on the side of the road. If you are planning to purchase a kitten, we encourage you to adopt from a shelter.
