Ridgewood NJ, What do you get when you bring together 539 orchestra students from grades 5 through 12 for a single night of music? A historical milestone for the Ridgewood Public Schools (RPS) and a “standing ovation” moment that the Village won’t soon forget!

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the George Washington Middle School (GWMS) gym was transformed into a massive concert hall for the first-ever RPS District-Wide Orchestra Concert. From elementary beginners to high school virtuosos, the event was a powerful display of the talent blooming across the district.

A Grand Finale to Remember: “Ode to Joy”

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the massive grand finale. Under the direction of five different conductors, all 539 students took their bows and joined forces for a breathtaking rendition of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” Seeing every instrument—from the smallest violin to the deepest cello—playing in perfect harmony was a testament to the hard work of the RPS staff and the dedication of the student musicians. The energy in the room was electric, culminating in a well-deserved standing ovation from the packed crowd of parents, faculty, and community members.
