Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood blog has heard from Village commuters that the tunnel under the train tracks is absolutely fine. It is well lit, and it is functional. There’s an area or two that needs a little shoring up, and it needs some power washing, and a coat of fresh paint. Somehow this is turning in to a $1 million price tag, followed by another $1 million price tag by Jeannie Johnson and her pie-in-the-sky plans for mosaics and murals. $2 million for a tunnel that people just walk through on their way to catch the train, or on their way to get home after work.  Fiscal responsibility ?  We think not!

  1. Talking about a waste of money, they are spending money that they don’t have. $2 million is ridiculous. Have a company going power wash the tunnel repair the loose concrete, re paint it. And that’s it leave it alone, how about spending some money at the bus station that place is a disgrace.

  3. How about putting some of Siobhans fancy garbage cans in there too

  4. How will this be paid for? Any consideration being given to doubling the parking fees?

  5. Why not cover the floor with artificial turf. Of god these people sure can spend $$$

  6. How about a coat of paint and call it a day?

  7. Paint and wash. Done. A couple of thousand dollars

  8. Should budget a bit for urinal cakes so it keeps the tunnels smelling fresh!

    1. Cameras may be cheaper

  9. Who comes up with this shit. Just amazing. Do the regular maintenance cleaning painting, it will be fine. Let’s worry about the bus station first it’s more important the places one shit hole it’s filthy disgusting falling apart. You don’t even wanna walk inside. It smells so bad. And that night it’s pitch black, someone is going to get raped again. Remember that many years ago, and yes, it did happen. Don’t let anybody bullshit you .

  10. Peewee steering business to one of his friends…

  11. This is an utter waste. A reckless expense. These people are so irresponsible.

  12. If you don’t like the speed, or lack there of, that our council is moving to address the bus station, the train tunnel, the town garage, or the unbelievable amount of money they are spending – then you need to VOTE this November. #makechangehappen

  13. Evan says “no big deal, we’ll just bond it and apply for grants”

  14. Town Full O’Nuts that will again vote this clown and his cronies come November.

  15. Make NJ Transit pay for it. Tunnel Only used for train commuters, or put turnstiles in like NYC subways & have commuters pay each time they use it.

    1. Probably used more by people crossing the track on foot or bike!

  16. I hope part of the plan is to install a sidewalk in there because it’s really time and maybe people will stop riding their bikes up and down the ramps at full speed.

  17. It’s used by people to go to the bathroom, because at times the train station is locked and people can’t use the bathroom. So they go to the bathroom poop right in a tunnel can you blame them? There are bathrooms and a place to go when the weather is bad raining cold, but most of the times the doors are locked.

    1. When in Rome …

  18. Kazmark and Weitz both think that if grant money is used then it costs us nothing. A million bucks is still a million bucks, and county money is our money.

  19. Just heard Kazmark saying on the TV that it is misleading to call the price tag $1,000,000 because they will apply for grsnts. The price tag is still a cool Million and the grant money comes from all of us. Geeeeeez. Cut the price for gods sake. It’s reckless

    1. Regardless of where the money comes from $1 million is $1 million!

      Get real Kazmark.

  20. Spend, spend, spend!

  21. Opulence plain and simple. $1 million of reckless planned spending.

  22. Bergen County redid the entire Duck Pond for $1 million. $1 million to paint an underpass seems ridiculous.
