Norwood NJ, Firefighters from across Bergen County and nearby New York departments battled a 3-alarm fire early Easter Sunday morning at the OnScent fragrance company warehouse located on Chestnut Street in Norwood.
Fire Ignites Before Sunrise
At approximately 4:27 a.m., Norwood Police and Fire were dispatched after a “water-flow” alarm signaled an emergency at the facility. Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke billowing from the building. Forced entry revealed an active alcohol-based fire spreading rapidly throughout the commercial structure.
By 5:00 a.m., Norwood EMS responded with BLS 1 and BLS 2, joined by Chief 41-EMS-1, Mass Care Response Unit 41-MCRU, and 41-First Responder. A FAST Shelter was deployed, providing essential rehab services for firefighters on the scene.

Units from Demarest Fire Department established a water supply and stretched hose lines for fire suppression, operating for over two hours. Emerson Volunteer Fire Department also worked on scene for nearly three hours.
The fire was officially knocked down by 6:10 a.m., and all units cleared the area by 8:53 a.m. Bergen County HazMat was also dispatched due to hazardous material concerns related to the fragrance production process.
No Injuries, Business Temporarily Closed
Norwood Police Chief Christian Federici confirmed no injuries among first responders and stated no employees were present at the time of the incident. However, the building sustained considerable damage and will require repairs before OnScent can resume operations.
Company Statement Pending
Chris Fuentes, Chief Marketing Officer for OnScent, issued a brief statement:
“Company officials have been on-site since early this morning. We will be in a better position to comment once power is restored to the facility. A formal statement may be issued on Monday.”
The fire, which broke out on a major holiday, showcased strong coordination across municipal and regional emergency services, with responders working tirelessly to contain the hazardous fire.
