Ridgewood NJ, Yard Waste refers to grass clippings, plant trimmings, branches, twigs, and leaves.

The yard waste collection program begins on April 15th.  Follow the collection schedule for your property, as contained in the annual printed Green Guide, on the Recycle Coach mobile application, on the Village website, and in the printed Village calendar.

For curbside pickup, place grass clippings and brush in a barrel (no larger than 32 gallons or heavier than 80 pounds), or in a paper biodegradable lawn/leaf bag. Branches (up to 3 feet in length and 2 inches in diameter – no logs) should be bundled and tied. All items must be placed at the curb. No plastic bags or Village recycling barrels will be picked up.

Leaf Collection

From October 21 to December 20, leaves are to be placed directly in the street in accordance with the schedule for your respective area. A schedule and instructions will be sent to your home in October. Branches/brush will not be collected curbside during leaf collection season, but may be brought to the Recycling Center during normal working hours.

If you currently have leaves in the street, please bring them back onto your property, because the first leaf placement dates begin on October 21st for Areas A and B only.  If leaves are on the street prior to October 21st, a summons may be issued.

Once you have identified your yardwaste area, please be certain to place your leaves in the street, along the curbline, only during the leaf placement dates listed for your area on the postcard.  You may not place leaves into the street after the last leaf placement date for your area, until the next round of leaf placement dates for your area.  If you place leaves along the curbline either before or after your leaf placement dates or after the street is complete, you may be issued a summons.  No warnings will be given.  If you employ a landscaper, please communicate your leaf placement dates to them.

No brush will be collected during leaf season.  In addition, do not place trash, stones, branches, twigs or other yardwaste into the leaf piles.

Yard Waste & Leaf Drop-off

Yard waste and leaves are accepted for drop-off at the recycling center, located at 203 E. Glen Avenue (behind Fire Headquarters) from 8am – 3pm, Monday through Saturday. To dispose of yard waste at the recycling center, residents must have proof of residency.  Plastic bags of vegetative waste may be brought to the Recycling Center, but must be slit open and emptied into the truck by residents.

Compost & Mulch

At times, compost and/or mulch that is processed at Ridgewood’s compost site is made available to Ridgewood residents. Please call 201-670-5585 for information.

  1. Thanks for posting this.

So my first batch of leaves were picked up on Thursday. The guys did a nice job.

But today I’ll have another huge pile to put out in the street, and from the looks of it, I’ll have another big pile next week.

My next pickup is not scheduled for another 3 weeks. What am i supposed to do with these piles…?

  2. Call the town !

  3. I don’t know what is going on. But I reside up on Hillcrest Road and what we are seeing is a very slow pace in removing the leaves in our area. From what we hear the village hired a new contractor to do our section of town in picking up leaves And yard waste .

  4. Now that it’s going to snow a bit we are going to see people flip out. Wait until another few weeks and the whole town is full of leaves and we got a foot of snow on top of them then we will hear people really tear up.

  5. many of my neighbors in area C never received the yellow postcard of leaf schedule. First pickup for Oct. not done till Nov 6 Wed., next on schedule for area C is 2 days later to place leafs at curbs, Nov 8-14. No updates on website.
