Valley Hospital : Any expansion plan MUST include some sort of PILOT (payment in lieu of property taxes)

Valley has a right to modernize, and if that requires some expansion, so be it. Its obvious that their original plan was too large. There has to be some sort of reasonable ‘middle ground here’ and hopefully a compromise will be reached.

Any expansion plan MUST include some sort of PILOT (payment in lieu of property taxes) . I’m a supporter of Valley but judging by the salaries their CEO received, and the amount of $$ doctors make (while some do not accept insurance) the ‘non-profit’ status slips past the definition.

A Pilot program must be agreed to by Valley. You can not force them into it. If they had any sense of community the would have entered in to a pilot program a long time ago. When you talk about middle ground have you ever seen Valley hospital seek any middle ground? Now with at least two of their supporters on the council and who knows if there are any other that are going to join the Dog and Pony show that hospital is going to put on. Who is going to keep tabs on Valley ‘non- prof’ status?

Because we know they are so forth coming with information. We all know how these hearing are going to go. Valley will take a few 100 sq ft off of here and a few 100 sq ft off over there and the council will proclaim that they have achieved ( reasonable middle ground) by their mediation and slap themselves on the back.

  1. This was a consideration presented by Brian Dowd two years ago in the 2010 election. At that time, the opposition did not appear to consider the viability of this option. Rather, candidates are branded with alleged one-issue agendas, and we lose the opportunity to be open and more collaborative. In the end, all residents pay the price.

  2. Why bother.

    The council is stacked.
Now Valley can get whatever they want and they won’t be wantig a pilot.

    Elections have consequences.

  3. #1 – Dowd was not really a viable candidate. Also, Valley could have ended this nightmare years ago but they’ve been too arrogant to compromise. Don’t you think that now that they have a couple of their own on the VC that they’ll bring the SAME PLAN up for another vote?

Yes we’ll all pay the price thanks to Valley.

  4. What doctors make is not Valley money and if you look Valley does contribute to the village in many ways.

  5. Elections have consequences and some of you are gonna get more than you bargained for lol

  6. I am so glad my kids are graduating

  7. If you think Valley is pompous and condescending now, wait until they give the Village a token payment, then we’ll see downright mandates on what we need to do FOR Valley. I for one, will pay more in taxes to prevent them from having a bigger say in our local affairs. Its amazing what a non taxpaying entity can do to a Village without contributing a dime. And please don’t waste our time about the value that the 6% of Valley’s patients from Ridgewood derive from the ability to go there and pay market rates for healthcare.

    1. Great! If you are so willing to pay more taxes, you can pay my increase too. Valley could probably be compelled to make payments in lieu of taxes, as many non-profits do. However, they are fearful of being portrayed as paying to play, just as you have predicted. If people like you would just take a step back and think about what is best for the village, instead of criticizing “all things Valley”, we might actually be able to make some progress in this town.

  8. Did anyone notice in the police blotter that once again our Ridgewood Police Department had to go to Valley for theft. Thank god it’s free for them right!

    1. Does a business in Ridgewood get a bill if the the police respond to a theft at the business? What do you mean “thank God it is free for them”?

  9. #10 – Valley doesn’t pay Real Estate Taxes!!!! Any business in town does. I think I’ll go pound my head against a wall now realizing how stupid many residents still are in this case. Our police are constantly at Valley dealing with assaults, stolen rings, purses, computers, equipment. You name it and they don’t pay us a red cent for the services they use in town. If you don’t believe me just go and read the police blotters for the past few years.

  10. How many Churches don’t pay property tax???……Or how about renters, they don’t pay property taxes. Oh yea and how about the out of towner who visits the Village and needs the police due to a theft from their car, they don’t pay property taxes. Your arguement about property taxes and who pays and who doesnt pay is full of holes my friend #11
