Ridgewood NJ, Longtime Ridgewood football coach Chuck Johnson is set to return to the head coach position this fall. Ridgewood Class of 1970, has been reinstated as the head football coach for the Maroons. Johnson, retired as a teacher at Ridgewood in May of 2020 and will now just focus on football . Feeling rejuvenated and healthy, the 68 year old  Johnson has spent the better part of the last 16 months recovering from a serious illness caused by an infection that ended up putting him in intensive care in October 2019, days after the Maroons moved to 5-0 with a victory over Paramus.

  6. Interesting, have seen him walking around, does not appear to be fully recovered. Team seemed to do ok when he was out.

  8. Hmm, reported by North Jersey Media BUT it hasn’t appeared on a BOE agenda……… Don’t teachers have to wait 2 years after retirement before they are allowed to be rehired in another capacity. Transparency? What say you Mr. Dani?

Otherwise, good for you Chuck, hope your recovery continues

  9. He’s 68, should have retired with the “best coach” title. Coming back, he may not be able to keep up with the past performance and some day he may go down bad.

It’s ALWAYS good to retire when you are at your peak performance. That’s the best for your legacy.

  10. I played for Coach Johnson for two seasons 15 years ago. He is an excellent coach and good man. I wish him and his family the best, but I just do not understand the constant overflowing god-like adoration this community has for him. He is football coach.

  11. I hear he has decided to move the Run and Shoot in his second round of coaching. 45 throws a game, may be worth going for once.

  12. So happy for him. He loves coaching!! And he’s good at it

  13. I suppose there is no one who can ever take over Chuck’s position that he can’t take back. Glad he’s healthy, but he should have stayed gone.

  14. He does not count his loses against Catholic Schools
