>Wind and Rain Pound Ridgewood on Saturday – Damage Throughout the Village

>Saturday’s wind & rain storm resulted in significant tree damage in many
sections of Ridgewood. Hardest hit were streets in the Heights area,
including a tree that blocked access to the fire station at West Glen and
Monroe.

A major portion of the Lawns neighborhood was without electrical power for
several hours. Ridgewood Police, Fire, Emergency Services, and Shade Tree
personnel responded to hundreds of downed tree & electrical outage reports
during the day and evening.

Fire Chief James Bombace was observed personally commanding his men at
several locations. Seen entering the Emergency Operations Center on Douglas
Place with Chief Bombace were Village Manager James Ten Hoeve, Emergency
Services Director Paul Gilard, OEM Deputy Director Jeremy Kleiman, and
Streets Superintendent John Spano.

Fortunately, no storm related injuries had been reported as of 10:30 PM.
Public Service Electric crews are now working to restore power; a process
that could take up to 24 hours.

  1. >First and formost, I’m Dave Norcia, a supervisor for the Street Dept. You have know idea how hard we WORKED. The Street Department along side Shade Tree was called out at 12:00 pm on Saturday and we did not leave untill 4:30 AM Sunday morning. We came back to work from 10:00 am Sunday morning till 5:30 pm. I am a supervisor for the Street Department, and treat all other Ridgewood Departments with the most respect. Don’t tell me how volunteers out-perform us any day of the week. If you feel you can out-perform us, I would like to welcome you to work along side the men and woman of these departments.
You think we get overwhelmed from the smallest emergency, you do NOT HAVE A CLUE WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT. I would like to meet face to face and inform you of our work performance. I would also like to thank the PAID RFD, Shade Tree, Street Dept., Emergency Services, EMS, RPD, Central Dispatch, and a special thanks to Paul Gilard. Just remember looked how we performed for all depts. understaffed. We did a fantastic job. If you can’t put your name, and be a no-show guy with “anonymous said” than I can’t respect your opinion.

    Dave Norcia
    Street Dept. Supervisor

  2. >Im glad to see that our Streets Department Supervisor is spending time on the blog rather then doing his job. As a taxpayer nothing makes me happier to see this.

Instead of going on the blog, why dont you do your job. Bogert hasnt seen a street sweeper in months. You can start here.

Do yourself a favor and make the streets of ridgewood cleaner, untill then get off the blog. Before I write the village manager a nasty letter.

As regard to the subject, they all did a great job.

  3. >Hey “anonymous”, if you’ll notice, Dave posted at 9:14pm. Are you suggesting that he work 24-7? I’ll bet you don’t!! The men and women of the Village work hard under circumstances that you would probably never even venture out into. They take pride in their work and take it very seriously, whether they are paid or not. I was out in the rain 16 hours during the storm and I can tell you that public safety and the well-being of the residents was EVERYONE’s concern!! Whenever you’re ready to volunteer to help us out, we’ll see you at Fire HQ or Emergency Services to sign you up and train you. Until then, grab a broom and sweep your own street….it’s the least you can do to IMPROVE your environment.
