River Edge NJ , Museum site open for touring. Activities include the 18th century pastime of kite making and flying and ice cream making.
The Bergen County Historical Society will be having its annual Summertime Social on Sunday, August 11th, 1 pm- 4:30 pm, HNBL, 1201 Main Street, River Edge NJ. Note the date change to 8/11/24.
An ice cream making demonstration will take place. Kite decorating and flying for children will be on site as well, weather permitting. Three 18th century Jersey Dutch Houses will be open for tours.
The Steuben House features an exhibit on early 1800 Oradell area with two boy’s portraits (includes hidden information) and artwork by 14 year old girl. Our Revolutionary War artifacts from our extensive collections are on exhibit.
Stop by the Westervelt-Thomas Barn to see a broom making demonstration.
Check out The Blackhorse Inn located in the Campbell-Christie House where light summer refreshments will be available.
Do not forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where BCHS interpreters will be having a Dairy Day making butter, ice cream and farmer’s cheese.
Interpretive signs are throughout the site including two across the 1889 swing bridge in Brett Park. We have a 12-step QR Code History Challenge with prize, claim completion prize in the Steuben House.
Ticket reservations are encouraged: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free. Buy tickets here online or at the door. Free parking available on site or take the train to the “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley Line. Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.
