The infamous Fyre Festival brand has officially been sold
the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Fantasy Island , on Tuesday, the rights to Fyre Festival — including its intellectual property, brand trademarks, and social media assets — were sold on eBay for just $245,300.
The week-long online auction attracted 175 bids from 42 bidders, with the final bid closing at 12:44 p.m. EST.
For a brand that once captivated the world before becoming a symbol of festival fraud and failure, it’s a surprisingly small price tag.
???? A Quick Look Back at the Fyre Festival Disaster
Originally marketed in 2017 as a luxury music festival in the Bahamas, Fyre Festival was promoted by influencers and A-list celebrities, promising upscale accommodations, gourmet food, and big-name performances.
What attendees got instead was:
-
Disaster relief tents instead of luxury villas
-
Dirt floors instead of glamping
-
Infamous “cheese sandwiches” instead of fine dining
-
Major artists like Blink-182 pulling out at the last minute
The catastrophe went viral, sparking memes, documentaries on Netflix and Hulu, and widespread ridicule.
???? The Billy McFarland Saga
Organizer Billy McFarland pleaded guilty to wire fraud and other crimes related to the event and was released early from federal prison in 2022.
Despite the scandal, McFarland attempted a comeback:
-
In 2023, he teased Fyre Festival II on a private island off Mexico.
-
In 2024, the sequel was postponed after tickets had already been sold.
Finally, in April 2025, McFarland announced the brand was up for grabs.
“After two years of rebuilding FYRE with honesty, creativity, and relentless effort, it’s time to pass the torch,” the festival’s Instagram post read.
???? What’s Next for the Fyre Brand?
It’s unclear what the new owner plans to do with the brand. Could this be a second attempt at redemption, a marketing stunt, or simply a collector’s piece of pop culture history?
What’s certain is that Fyre Festival remains one of the biggest cautionary tales in entertainment history.
Would you attend a Fyre Festival reboot under new ownership? Or should the brand stay buried in the past?
