MAHWAH, NJ — A man accused of stealing cash from gym-goers’ lockers at Powerhouse Gym in Mahwah has been arrested, according to the Mahwah Police Department.
Jamie Morella, 27, of Pequannock, was taken into custody in Montclair on Monday following a coordinated investigation led by Mahwah Police detectives.
Multiple Theft Incidents Reported at Powerhouse Gym
Between July 13 and July 16, several gym members reported that money was taken from their wallets while they were using the facility. According to authorities, the thefts occurred when the victims’ belongings were left in unsecured lockers during workouts.
Detective Christopher Fasulo reported that the stolen amounts totaled $630, $320, $120, and $50 across four separate incidents.
Investigation Leads to Arrest
Working closely with Powerhouse Gym staff, Mahwah police were able to identify Morella as the suspect. Detectives Christopher Fasulo and Timothy Letavish located and arrested Morella in Montclair. He was then transported to Mahwah Police Headquarters, where he was formally charged with four counts of theft.
Morella has since been released pending a hearing in Superior Court, authorities confirmed.
Police Seeking Additional Victims
The Mahwah Police Department urges any individuals who believe they may have also been victimized during this timeframe to contact Detective Christopher Fasulo at (201) 529-1000 ext. 222.
