Ridgewood, NJ – Ridgewood Water has taken a major step forward in its $150 million system-wide PFAS mitigation project, with the recent delivery of four enormous Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) vessels—the second-largest size manufactured by Calgon Carbon Corp.—to the Wortendyke PFAS Treatment Facility in Midland Park. The facility remains on schedule to begin operations by December 2026.

Once all 12 PFAS Treatment Facilities are operational, all regulated PFAS compounds in Ridgewood Water’s treated supply will be nondetectable, exceeding the EPA’s stringent standard of 4 parts per trillion and completing the project five years ahead of the federal 2031 deadline.

$1 Million in State Funding for PFAS Mitigation

As part of the FY2026 state budget, Ridgewood Water has been awarded $1 million in funding to support ongoing PFAS mitigation efforts. This funding will help offset the costs of constructing the Main PFAS Treatment Facility in Glen Rock.

Ridgewood Water is grateful to the Governor and the members of the legislature who helped champion this critical budget resolution,” said Richard Calbi, Director of Ridgewood Water. “This investment underscores the State’s commitment to clean water, public health, and resilient infrastructure.”

Construction Timeline

  • Main PFAS Treatment Facility in Glen Rock: Construction begins September 2026, with completion targeted by year’s end.

  • Wortendyke Facility in Midland Park: Operational by December 2026.

  • All 12 facilities: Fully operational next year, ensuring PFAS-free water for residents.

This initiative includes securing federal funding, leveraging low-interest NJ IBANK loans, filing litigation against polluters, and now receiving direct state investment—making it one of the most significant public works projects in Ridgewood Water’s history.
