OAKLAND, NJ — A North Jersey karate studio employee has been arrested after authorities say he secretly recorded children in a bathroom and produced child sexual abuse material.

Ryan J. Curtin, 25, of Oakland, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with multiple crimes, including production of child sexual abuse material, possession of child sexual abuse material, and invasion of privacy, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hidden Camera Discovered at Ramsey Martial Arts Studio

The investigation began in April when Ramsey Police responded to Tiger Schulman’s Martial Arts on Route 17 South after staff found a hidden camera in a restroom. Police determined that Curtin had placed the device and recorded an adult customer.

Curtin was initially arrested and charged with third-degree invasion of privacy before being released pending further court action.

Following the discovery, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit and the Digital Forensics Lab continued the investigation. Authorities later found that Curtin had also placed a camera in the female bathroom, recording multiple victims — including children — in various stages of undress.

Additional Charges and Arrest

Curtin was arrested again this week in Paramus and charged with:

  • Two counts of second-degree production of child pornography

  • One count of third-degree possession of child pornography

  • Seven counts of third-degree invasion of privacy

He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail awaiting a first court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court, Hackensack.

Karate Studio Responds

Tiger Schulman’s Martial Arts confirmed that Curtin was immediately terminated once the allegations surfaced.

Sensei Shawn Rapoport, owner of the Ramsey studio, released a statement:

“This behavior is reprehensible, violates every value we stand for, and will never be tolerated. The safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff is our highest priority.”

Rapoport added that the school is fully cooperating with law enforcement throughout the investigation.

  1. I think the headline should read “Ramsey Karate Studio Employee” and not “Oakland Karate Studio Employee” .

  2. Wait until he gets him to jail, they gonna be doing karate on him, kicking his ass, especially his ass
