SECAUCUS, NJ — What began as a late-night car meet turned into chaos early Sunday, August 31, 2025, when more than 100 vehicles “took over” the intersection of Secaucus Road and County Avenue, performing dangerous stunts as onlookers recorded videos, according to police.
Around 2:31 a.m., Secaucus Police officers arrived on scene and were immediately surrounded by a crowd of over 50 people, some of whom climbed onto police vehicles and launched fireworks directly at them, officials said.
Backup From 6 Departments Called In
Facing escalating unrest, officers called for mutual aid from neighboring towns. Police from Weehawken, North Bergen, Hoboken, East Rutherford, Rutherford, and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office rushed to assist in dispersing the crowd.
Despite the dangerous situation, no officers were injured, though several police units sustained damage.
Police Chief: “I Will Not Tolerate This Unrest”
“Our officers came under attack last night, and I will not tolerate this unrest,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. He announced that a multi-division task force—including the Traffic Bureau, Detective Division, Patrol Division, and Intelligence Section—will work to identify and arrest those responsible for what he called “riotous behavior.”
“Secaucus is not going to be the place where these criminals operate with impunity,” Miller added.

Investigation Ongoing — Public Asked to Help
Police are now reviewing dozens of social media videos showing the takeover, including one clip released by the department that shows a firework exploding directly under a squad car.
As of Monday morning, no arrests had been made. Authorities are urging the public to help identify suspects by calling the Secaucus Police tipline at (201) 330-2049 or emailing spdtips@secaucusnjpolice.gov.
