CLIFTON, NJ — September 3, 2025 — A Bergen County man has been arrested in connection with a fatal Clifton car crash that killed a 17-year-old passenger earlier this year, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Tyler Robinson, 20, of Lodi, was charged on September 2 with:

  • First-degree death by auto

  • Second-degree death by auto

  • Three counts of third-degree assault by auto

Prosecutors have filed a motion for pre-trial detention, with a hearing to be scheduled in Passaic County Superior Court.

Fatal March Crash in Clifton

The charges stem from a crash that occurred around 12:30 a.m. on March 2 at the intersection of Lakeview Avenue and Crooks Avenue in Clifton.

According to investigators, Robinson was driving a Honda Accord carrying four people when it collided with a Mazda CX-9, which was occupied only by the driver.

Tragically, a 17-year-old passenger in the Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passengers suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Potential Penalties Robinson Faces

If convicted, Robinson faces serious prison time:

  • 10 to 20 years for first-degree death by auto

  • 5 to 10 years for second-degree death by auto

  • 3 to 5 years for each assault by auto charge

The case remains under investigation by the Clifton Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
