RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Quarterback **Gavin McCrone powered Ridgewood High School to a statement victory Friday night, leading the Maroons past Montclair, 41-28, in front of a home crowd.
McCrone was unstoppable, delivering four total touchdowns — two through the air and two on the ground — as Ridgewood improved to 2-0 on the season.
In the first quarter, McCrone connected with Quinn Conneen on a 23-yard touchdown strike, then followed it up in the second with a 10-yard scoring pass to Rorik McCarthy. He also showed off his legs, breaking free for a 46-yard rushing touchdown before halftime.
To open the third quarter, McCrone punched in another short rushing score, stretching Ridgewood’s lead to 34-14 and keeping Montclair on its heels.
Despite Montclair battling back with 28 points, Ridgewood’s offense and defense held firm to secure the victory.
