Wyckoff NJ, a bizarre and unexpected accident caused major traffic headaches in Wyckoff, New Jersey, on Thursday afternoon. A dump truck, fresh from a paving project, got its raised truck bed tangled in a large communications trunk line, forcing the closure of Wyckoff Avenue near the Midland Park border for more than three hours.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The accident happened just after the truck had dumped a load of hot asphalt at a nearby parking lot. For reasons that are still unclear, the rear bed of the dump truck remained raised as the vehicle pulled away, catching the thick bundle of communication lines.
A Coordinated Effort to Clear the Scene
Emergency responders from the Wyckoff Police Department and Wyckoff Fire Department arrived quickly to assess the situation. The unique challenge of freeing the truck from the overhead lines required the specialized equipment and expertise of a heavy-duty tow truck, whose operators worked alongside firefighters.
The combined efforts of the emergency crews were successful in freeing the truck from its predicament.
The damage to the communications line was significant, prompting crews from PSE&G’s Electric Division, Verizon, and Optimum Cable to respond to the scene. Their work was crucial to assess the damage and begin repairs to the essential services that were impacted.

These dump trucks need to slow down, some of these guys are nuts. They must be paid by the load, they’re speeding all over the place.
