Elmwood Park NJ , the Elmwood Park community is mourning the sudden and tragic passing of Chris Woolis, a beloved longtime Little League coach, devoted husband, and father. Woolis, 47, passed away on September 16, just seven days after being diagnosed with cancer.
Chris Woolis was a cornerstone of the community, known for his unwavering positivity and commitment to the young athletes he mentored. According to Little League President Steven Kochik, Woolis’s passion for the game “went far beyond wins and losses; he was a mentor, a role model, and a steady presence who truly embodied the spirit of Little League.”
A Life Defined by Passion and Dedication
Woolis had a long and impactful career as a sports writer and sports editor for the Clifton Journal for over 15 years, where he focused on the athletic successes of students at Clifton High School. For the last eight years, he worked as a senior analyst at Verisk Analytics.
A former Little League player himself, Woolis coached teams for the past eight years, leaving a profound impact on every child he guided. His friends and former players describe him as a “class act,” a “mentor,” and a man who “believed in every single kid he coached.” Friends said he was always there to offer a smile, give great advice, and provide help without being asked.
Chris and his wife, Christa, a special education teacher, were also dedicated to honoring the memory of their triplet son, John, who passed away 13 years ago. They participated in numerous fundraisers and remembrance events, a testament to their deep commitment and resilience.
