HACKENSACK, NJ – A shocking incident has led to a technician at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) being arrested and charged with the sexual assault of a female patient. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO) announced the charges on October 1st, underscoring the serious breach of trust within the healthcare setting.

Asher Younis, 41, of Dumont, who was employed as an electrocardiogram (EKG) technician at the hospital, was arrested shortly after the alleged incident.

Details of the Charges and Hospital Response

The BCPO stated that the alleged sexual assault occurred on the morning of September 30th. Younis was arrested the same day and transported to Bergen County Jail, pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

He faces multiple severe charges:

  • First-Degree Aggravated Sexual Assault
  • Second-Degree Sexual Assault
  • Third-Degree Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact

Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH), the parent organization of HUMC, confirmed the action taken against the employee. In a statement, Jessica Nussman, HMH Director of Media and Public Relations, said:

“We are aware of the arrest and are fully cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation. The team member in question has been terminated. Our highest priority is the safety and security of our patients and team members. Due to the ongoing investigation, HMH cannot comment further.”

The immediate termination of the employee demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to patient safety and cooperation with the authorities during this grave investigation.

Commitment to Patient Safety in Healthcare

This incident serves as a troubling reminder of the critical importance of patient safety and security protocols within medical facilities. Patients entrust healthcare workers with their well-being, and institutions must maintain the highest standards of oversight and accountability.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Hackensack Meridian Health continue their collaborative work to ensure justice and uphold the security of the hospital environment.
