Garfield Woman Charged With Child Abuse

Garfield NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 33-year-old DARLENE GUZMAN of Garfield, NJ on charges of child abuse and assault. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and the Garfield Police Department, under the direction of Chief Joseph Delaney.

On Thursday, October 2, 2025, the NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding an alleged child abuse incident that occurred in Garfield, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Garfield Police Department revealed that DARLENE GUZMAN physically assaulted and abused a juvenile in Garfield, NJ on or about Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

As a result of the investigation, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, DARLENE GUZMAN was arrested and charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2); and simple assault, a disorderly persons offense, N.J.S.A. 2C: 2-12-1a(1). GUZMAN was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Garfield Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
