RIDGEWOOD, NJ – The long-awaited restoration of a vital Ridgewood walkway has taken a dramatic step forward! The Kingsbridge Lane Pedestrian Bridge, which has been closed for repairs and replacement, was officially set into place this week, marking a significant milestone in the project’s timeline.
The installation of the new structure means the saga of the Kingsbridge Lane bridge is nearing its conclusion, bringing the community one step closer to safely resuming foot traffic across the span.
A Critical Step in the Restoration Project
The setting of the bridge is often the most visible and complex part of the restoration process. Specialized crews successfully maneuvered and positioned the structure, securing it over the waterway. This achievement transitions the project from heavy lifting to the final phase of construction.
“The bridge was set in place this week, marking a major milestone in the restoration project,” announced local officials.
The newly installed bridge not only restores a crucial link for neighborhood pedestrians but also ensures the span meets modern safety and structural standards for decades to come.
What Happens Next? The Road to Reopening
While the bridge is physically in place, the work is not yet complete. Construction crews will now focus on the remaining tasks required to permanently secure the structure before it is deemed safe for public use.
The remaining work includes:
- Final Securing: Permanently anchoring the bridge to the abutments.
- Approach Work: Connecting the new structure to the existing pathways on Kingsbridge Lane.
- Safety Barriers: Installation of railings and protective barriers.
- Inspections: Final engineering and municipal inspections to ensure all safety protocols are met.
Once all finishing touches are applied and safety clearances are granted, the Kingsbridge Lane Pedestrian Bridge will officially open to the public, restoring a vital pedestrian connection for the Ridgewood community.

Take a bow Lorraine Renyolds wherever you are.
Man, what a long time for basically a paint job. Something odd about all of this. This could not be done in-house? Department of Public WORKS? If we can pick up our own trash and supply contaminated water to the Village citizens, I think someone can paint a small bridge.
Juan is on a roll today…
You’re joking right? You do realize this repair was a bit more than a paint job?
