The Ridgewood Village Council has voted to approve substantial funding for a brand-new playground, ensuring a major boost to recreational facilities for the community’s youngest residents. Ordinance No. 4062, passed on final reading at the special public meeting on November 5, 2025, authorizes $618,000 for improvements to Kings Pond Park and Playground.

The project’s centerpiece will be the construction of a new “Little Tikes” playground and the addition of a much-needed gazebo to provide shelter from sun and rain.
Where is the New Playground Located?
The new facility will be constructed on Lakeview Drive near the border of Midland Park, situated close to the Midland Park Acme and Kuiken Lumber, and next to the existing Northwest Bergen Utilities (Sewerage) Authority pump house.
Key details about the project:
- Total Appropriation: $618,000
- Bond/Notes Authorized: $587,000
- Amenities: “Little Tikes” playground equipment and a shelter/gazebo.
- Parking: No additional parking will be added in connection with the new playground

The NJDEP Hurdle: Green Acres Restriction
A critical component of this bond ordinance is the funding for the extinguishment of an NJDEP Green Acres restriction. This restriction is associated with the ongoing “Diversion” project concerning the South Broad Street park.
The entire project must now receive final approval from the NJDEP (New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection) to ensure compliance with Green Acres regulations, which govern the use of land previously acquired or protected using state funding.
Financial Breakdown and Final Approval
The bond ordinance officially titled, BOND ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO KINGS POND PARK AND PLAYGROUND IN AND BY THE VILLAGE OF RIDGEWOOD, passed its first reading on October 8, 2025, and secured final passage following a public hearing on November 5, 2025. The estimated useful life of the new improvements is 15 years.
Ridgewood residents can look forward to seeing the new recreational space take shape, offering a modern, sheltered environment for children and families along Lakeview Drive.

Next to a sewage treatment pump house on a street in the middle of nowhere. Great plan?
A playground for 20 houses?
Just like Habernickel. Oh wait Habernickel is a playground and pavilion for Healthbarn
I would NOT say the street was in the middle of no where..
I grew up on that street and my Mother still resides there.
That street in the middle of no where use to have ice skating on Friday nights that the Village would have someone there working and have a small contained bonfire for the children and families of Ridgewood.
That street in the middle of no where is where all the neighborhood children would gather on a summer night and play kick the can or spud.
That street in the middle of no where is where friendships and bonds until this day are still STRONG!
That street in the middle of no where is where many of your Police and Firefighters were raised or lived. (I can count at least 9 members of police and fire depts. and 2 crossing guards.)
Honestly, I would be more worried about the leaf dump and the trucks going up and down Lakeview Dr than the sewage treatment plant…
But what do I know about that street in the middle of no where………..
Over $600,000 for a playground within walking distance of virtually nothing and no place to park. How ridiculous!
There is literally no one that lives around there??
Please track the money.. who are the contractors getting this money?
Why don’t we update the crappy playgrounds that are actually used like graydon and the one at Vets? Parks and rec is the most mid managed department in town
I will drive there.
