Paramus NJ, today, Saturday, November 22, 2025, marks the thirty-second anniversary of the line of duty death of Paramus Police Officer Vincent M. Brock. Officer Brock made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the community he loved, leaving behind a profound legacy that continues to shape the Paramus Police Department .

The Paramus Police Department is lowering the flags at headquarters to half-mast in his honor, reminding every officer and resident of the sacrifice made by Officer Brock on November 22, 1993.

The Ultimate Sacrifice

Officer Brock was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident while responding to an emergency call. The call, a false 911 report of a shooting at the busy Garden State Plaza, illustrates the unpredictable and inherent danger police officers face every moment they are on patrol.

Vinny, as he was affectionately known, left behind his wife Diane and three children, Timothy, Gregory, and Lindsay. His sacrifice underscores the immense personal cost borne by law enforcement families across the nation.

Building a Stronger Department

Beyond his duty on the streets, Officer Brock was instrumental in the growth and development of the Paramus Police Department itself. His contributions helped establish several foundational units that remain crucial to the PPD’s operations today:

  • PPD Ceremonial Honor Guard: Helping create a unit dedicated to honoring fallen heroes and representing the department with distinction.

  • PPD Communications Center: Contributing to the establishment of the critical hub for emergency response and coordination.

  • Special Operations Team: Taking an active role in the development of the unit that would later evolve into the Emergency Service Unit (ESU).

An Enduring Call to Remember

The Paramus Police Department asks that the community and all law enforcement officers nationwide take a moment today to remember Officer Brock and all those who have fallen in the line of duty.

“We will never forget the ultimate sacrifices made in the line of duty by all police officers across this nation, in particular Vinny’s sacrifice on November 22, 1993,” the department stated. “We ask that every officer on every day of the year take a moment to remember the sacrifice made by them and their families.”

Officer Vincent M. Brock’s legacy is defined by his commitment to his family, his dedication to public service, and the lasting structures he helped build within the Paramus Police Department. His memory serves as a beacon of courage and dedication.

  1. I can’t believe that happened 32 years ago.

I umpired a game with one of the daughters playing catcher. She was a terrific kid.
