Park Ridge NJ, a frightening incident shook a quiet Bergen County community Thursday, leaving one woman hospitalized with serious injuries after she was attacked by a large dog.

The incident occurred just after 5:00 PM at the Bears Nest Condominium Complex in Park Ridge, triggering a rapid response from local law enforcement.

Heroic First Responders Control Severe Bleeding

Police from both Park Ridge and Montvale rushed to the scene following reports of a dog attack. Montvale officers were the first to arrive, finding the victim with “multiple serious injuries,” according to Park Ridge Lt. James Babcock.

In a critical act of emergency aid, officers immediately applied a tourniquet to control the victim’s severe bleeding while waiting for the Tri-Boro Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The woman was quickly transported to Hackensack University Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.

Investigation Details: Uncontrolled Rottweiler

The investigation revealed that the victim was walking her small dog on a leash when a leashed Rottweiler “became uncontrolled” and attacked her. Fortunately, the victim’s small dog was not injured during the assault.

An unidentified individual bravely intervened to help the victim, sustaining a minor bite in the process, but declined medical treatment.

As is standard state protocol for any biting incident, the Rottweiler has been ordered to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine for rabies. The dog owner provided police with all required vaccination records.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen County Animal Control, and the Bergen County Health Department to determine the appropriate next steps.
