Safety Reminder: Dealing with Downed Trees

This incident serves as a critical safety reminder, especially for older residents, regarding the dangers of working with large trees or limbs, particularly after periods of high wind or poor weather.

Safety Recommendations from Experts:

  • Leave Heavy Work to Professionals: Never attempt to remove or cut large, heavy, or complex tree limbs yourself, especially if they are under tension or near utility lines. This work requires specialized training and equipment.

  • Check for “Widow Makers”: Always look up for broken or hanging branches (often called “widow makers”) that could fall at any moment before starting yard work.

  • Call for Help: For large tree debris or storm damage, hire a certified arborist. For immediate emergencies involving injury, downed power lines, or structural damage, call 911 immediately.

The community’s thoughts are with the victim and their family for a full and speedy recovery.
