HACKENSACK, NJ – Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco hosted the annual ERAC Mayors Meeting in Hackensack, bringing together mayors from all 70 municipalities to review a landmark year of economic and fiscal strength for New Jersey’s most populous county. The message was clear: Bergen County is thriving and leading the state in growth and stability.
Record Ratable Base GrowthÂ
The core of the county’s success lies in its booming real estate and commercial sectors. Bergen County saw its ratable base soar by a remarkable $11.3 billion from 2024 to 2025. This growth was widespread, affecting residential, commercial, apartment, and industrial properties.
This responsible economic growth has a direct benefit for homeowners:
-
Fiscal Strength: Thanks to this significant ratable base increase and disciplined budgeting, Bergen County proudly maintains the third-lowest county tax rate in New Jersey.
New Jersey’s Economic Powerhouse
Bergen County isn’t just growing—it’s dominating the state’s economy. The local business community is experiencing unprecedented vitality:
-
The county is home to over 45,000 businesses.
-
It hosts the most manufacturers in the state.
-
Major Investments: Key businesses are making large commitments, including MLB Network moving to Elmwood Park and Western Carrier expanding its presence in Teterboro.
As a result of this activity, Bergen County now ranks #1 in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statewide at $82.4 billion, solidifying its position as New Jersey’s economic engine.
Shared Services and Future Focus: The FIFA World Cup
The meeting also highlighted Bergen County’s commitment to efficiency and regional cooperation. The County continues to lead the state in shared services, boasting at least one agreement with every single municipality. Success stories include Bergen Fiber and Bergen EMS, the latter of which has responded to more than 16,700 calls in just three years.
Looking ahead, officials reviewed preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The County is ready to support local towns with resources, promotion, local business outreach, and mobile stages (showmobiles) to ensure maximum benefit from the global event.
County Executive Tedesco concluded the meeting by thanking the mayors and local leaders for their essential partnership in maintaining Bergen County’s prosperity and strength.
