Minneapolis, Minnesota, the fallout from Minnesota’s massive pandemic-era fraud scandal has reached a boiling point. On Sunday, December 28, 2025, FBI Director Kash Patel announced a major surge of personnel and investigative resources to the state, declaring that the infamous Feeding Our Future scheme was merely “the tip of a very large iceberg.”

While federal prosecutors have already dismantled a $250 million scheme to siphoning food assistance, current estimates for stolen taxpayer money across various Minnesota programs now reportedly exceed $1 billion, with some federal estimates suggesting the total could be even higher.

📽️ Viral Documentary Sparks National Outrage

The FBI’s announcement follows the release of a viral 42-minute documentary by investigative YouTuber Nick Shirley on December 26. In the video, which has garnered tens of millions of views, Shirley visits the addresses of various daycare centers and adult home care companies in Minneapolis that allegedly received millions in state-distributed funds.

The Findings:

  • Inactive Facilities: Many locations appeared completely non-operational or abandoned despite claiming millions in taxpayer money.

  • The “Quality Learing” Center: One daycare center, which reportedly received $4 million, famously featured a sign that misspelled the word “learning” as “learing.”

  • Lack of Oversight: The video highlighted a glaring lack of physical presence or activity at sites supposedly serving hundreds of children and seniors.

🚨 Feeding Our Future: A $250M Blueprint for Fraud

Director Patel pointed to the Feeding Our Future network as the catalyst for the current surge.8 To date, this single investigation has resulted in:

  • 78 Indictments and over 50 Convictions.

  • Massive Money Laundering: Funds intended to feed hungry children were instead used to purchase luxury real estate, international travel, and vehicles.10

  • Deportation Warnings: Patel noted that many individuals involved are being referred to immigration officials for denaturalization and deportation where eligible.11

🏛️ Political Firestorm: Walz vs. Trump Administration

The investigation has become a central flashpoint between Governor Tim Walz (D) and the Trump Administration.

  • The $9 Billion Claim: Federal prosecutors recently estimated that fraud in state-run Medicaid programs could total as much as $9 billion—a figure Gov.13 Walz has called “sensationalized” and “weaponized” without evidence.

  • The Defense: Walz maintains his administration has taken aggressive steps, including hiring an outside firm to audit high-risk programs and launching a new statewide Office of Program Integrity.

  • The Criticism: Republicans, including Vice President JD Vance, have accused Walz of sitting “idly by” while billions were stolen, calling Minnesota a “microcosm of the immigration fraud in our system.”

🔍 What Programs Are Under Investigation?

The FBI’s surge is not just looking at food aid. The probe has broadened to include:

  1. Childcare Assistance (CCAP): Fraudulent billing for children who do not exist or do not attend.

  2. Medicaid/Adult Home Care: Billing for “ghost” patients or services never rendered.

  3. Housing Stabilization Services: High-risk programs that have since been shut down due to abuse.

  4. SBA Loans: A recent House Committee probe is looking into how entities connected to the fraud scandal also received millions in PPP and EIDL loans.
