North Arlington NJ, a routine radar patrol in Bergen County took a serious turn early Sunday morning when North Arlington police intercepted a speeding Dodge Challenger, leading to a DWI arrest and the seizure of a loaded Glock 19.
The Stop: 56 mph in a 30 mph Zone
At approximately 2:24 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, North Arlington officers monitoring traffic on the Belleville Turnpike clocked a white 2016 Dodge Challenger traveling nearly double the speed limit. Upon pulling the vehicle over, the investigation quickly shifted from a traffic violation to a criminal inquiry.
DWI Arrest and Weapon Recovery
The driver, identified as Tanajah Harris, 25, of Newark, was found to be intoxicated. While searching the vehicle for open alcohol containers—which yielded a partially consumed 1.5-liter bottle of wine—officers discovered a Glock 19 Gen 5 handgun with a live round chambered.
Illegal High-Capacity Magazine Charges
Further investigation focused on the passenger, Raequawn Bridgeman, 35, of East Orange. Police recovered a 16-round high-capacity magazine in his possession.
While the firearm was registered to Bridgeman, North Arlington Police Lt. David Hudak noted that it was being transported in direct violation of New Jersey firearm transport laws.
NJ Law Reminder: Firearms must be unloaded and contained in a closed, securely fastened case or locked in the vehicle’s trunk. Additionally, magazines holding more than 10 rounds are strictly prohibited in the state.
