TEANECK, NJ — A high-tech police alert led to a significant bust near Route 4 on Friday night, as Teaneck officers intercepted a vehicle wanted for eluding and uncovered a cache of drugs and a loaded firearm.

The incident began around 9:40 p.m. on March 20, when an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) flagged a black BMW X6 with New York plates. According to Teaneck Deputy Police Chief Seth Kriegel, the vehicle had a history of eluding law enforcement in other jurisdictions.

The Stop: Northumberland Road & Route 4

Teaneck officers tracked the BMW and observed several motor vehicle violations before pulling the car over near the intersection of Northumberland Road and the Route 4 entrance.

During the investigation, officers conducted a search of the luxury SUV that revealed a dangerous combination of illegal weapons and narcotics.

Evidence Recovered: From Revolvers to “Lean”

The search of the BMW yielded a variety of illegal items, including:

  • Firearms: A loaded .45LC/.410 caliber Taurus revolver.

  • Narcotics: Approximately 3.75 ounces of suspected cocaine (split between a large 3.6 oz batch and smaller 4g containers).

  • Prescription Drugs: Multiple containers of suspected “lean” (prescription cough medicine containing promethazine or codeine).

  • Weapons: Knives found on both the driver and one passenger.

Suspects Identified and Charged

Three North Jersey men were taken into custody without incident:

  1. Juan Marte Jr., 23 (Fairfield): The driver.

  2. Eric Tripp, 25 (New Milford): Passenger.

  3. Raymond Ramirez, 31 (Belleville): Passenger.

All three suspects face a long list of serious charges, including possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and distribution within 1,000 feet of school property. Marte and Tripp face additional weapons charges related to the knives found on their persons.

Next Steps for the Accused

Following the arrests, the BMW was impounded. Marte, Tripp, and Ramirez were transported to the Bergen County Jail where they await their first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court.
