Ridgewood NJ, Is your morning commute feeling a little bumpier than usual? You aren’t imagining it. After a relentless winter season of freezing and thawing, the dreaded “pothole season” has officially arrived in the Village.

The good news? The Ridgewood Streets Division is already on the move, working across town to smooth out the ride. But they need your eyes on the road to ensure no crater is left behind.

The Post-Winter Push: Why Now?

Winter in North Jersey is notoriously tough on asphalt. As water seeps into road cracks and freezes, it expands, weakening the pavement. Once the ice melts and heavy traffic passes over those weak spots, potholes form almost overnight.

To keep our local infrastructure safe and save residents from costly tire and rim repairs, the Village of Ridgewood has prioritized a town-wide “fill-in” initiative this month.

See a Pothole? Here’s How to Report It

While crews are canvassing the main arteries, some side streets or specific trouble spots might need a second look. Village Manager Keith Kazmark and the Streets Division are asking for your help to build the ultimate “to-do” list.

If you spot a specific pothole that needs attention, here is the fastest way to get it fixed:

  • Email: Send the location (nearest cross-streets or house number) to [email protected].

  • What to Include: A brief description of the size or specific lane can help crews prioritize the most hazardous areas.

Pro Tip: Reporting potholes early prevents them from turning into larger, more expensive road failures. Your email helps the Village allocate resources efficiently!

Safe Driving Reminder

While the Streets Division is out working, please remember to:

  • Slow Down: Give our crews plenty of space to work safely.

  • Stay Alert: Watch for orange cones and temporary lane shifts.

  • Be Patient: Patching is a process, and the team is working through a long list to cover the entire Village.

  1. And why are we doing maintenance on a County Road, is the county going to do repair potholes on village Roads?

    1. Maybe they figured you needed something to bitch about? Maybe they didn’t want to let you down.

  2. Exactly right we all pay county taxes for county services, so call the county in to repair county roads. Makes sense what’s next? Are we gonna go out to Route 17 and do maintenance there?
