Hackensack NJ, A major traffic delay gripped the Route 80 and Route 17 interchange in Hackensack, NJ, as emergency crews battled to rescue four people from an overturned vehicle. The high-stakes rescue required a seamless coordinated effort between fire, medical, and state police units.

The Scene: Route 80 at the Route 17 South Exit

The City of Hackensack Fire Department’s Fourth Platoon was dispatched to a reported “MVA with rollover” on one of North Jersey’s busiest stretches of highway. Upon arrival, responders found a vehicle overturned near the Route 17 South exit, a notorious hotspot for merging traffic.

Coordinated Rescue Effort

The rescue was a race against time. Hackensack Firefighters worked side-by-side with New Jersey State Police and local EMS to manage the following:

  • Occupant Stabilization: Assessing and carefully extracting four individuals from the overturned car.

  • Patient Transport: All four occupants were stabilized on-site before being transported to area hospitals for further evaluation.

  • Highway Safety: Crews worked to secure the crash site and manage debris to prevent secondary accidents on the crowded interstate.

The professionalism of the Fourth Platoon ensured that all victims received immediate care, despite the dangerous conditions of working on an active highway.
