Closter NJ, In a powerful display of international solidarity and local remembrance, the borough of Closter, New Jersey, became the site of a moving tribute this morning. Assemblyman Robert Auth, alongside local leaders and human rights advocates, co-hosted a  to honor the thousands who lost their lives seeking freedom.

Remembering the 10,000: A Journey Toward Freedom

The ceremony, held at 1 Knickerbocker Road, was dedicated to the approximately 10,000 men and women who perished while attempting to flee North Korea. For many in attendance, the event was a stark reminder of the ongoing human rights crisis and the immense bravery of those who risk everything for liberty.

“Watching veterans, community members, and families come together to lay flowers and pay their respects was something I won’t soon forget,” said Assemblyman Robert Auth. “This was one of the most moving events I’ve attended.”

Leadership in Human Rights: Dr. Young Ae Ma

The memorial was organized by Dr. Young Ae Ma and the International North Korean Human Rights Association. Dr. Ma is widely recognized for her tireless advocacy and work to ensure that the stories of defectors are never forgotten.

The event also saw strong local support, with Closter Mayor John Glidden Jr. standing in solidarity with the North Korean defector community and North Jersey residents.
