What was supposed to be a cool night on the slopes turned into an unexpected adventure at American Dream Mall this past Friday. Twenty-five skiers and snowboarders had to be rescued after a mechanical glitch stalled the ski lift at Big Snow, North America’s only indoor, year-round ski resort.

Located in the heart of Bergen County, the attraction faced a brief “mechanical issue” that left guests suspended mid-air just as the facility was nearing its closing time.

30 Minutes of Suspension: The Big Snow Rescue Operation

The incident occurred on Friday night, but details were confirmed by mall officials on Monday. According to Big Snow spokesperson Brianna Cortez, the lift was “temporarily paused” for approximately 30 minutes.

While being stuck on a lift can be unnerving, the Big Snow team jumped into action quickly:

  • Safety First: Staff utilized the lift’s backup motor system to resume movement.

  • No Injuries: All 25 guests were safely unloaded without any medical incidents.

  • Zero Danger: Officials emphasized that at no point were any guests in danger during the 30-minute window.

Quick Recovery for New Jersey’s Premier Indoor Slope

The timing of the stall was fortunate, as it happened near the end of the operating day. Maintenance teams worked through the night to ensure the system was fully functional for the weekend crowds. By Saturday morning, the lift had been repaired, tested, and cleared for normal operations.

To make up for the lost slope time and the inconvenience, American Dream provided all affected guests with complimentary return vouchers.

About Big Snow American Dream

For those unfamiliar with the East Rutherford landmark, Big Snow is a massive feat of engineering. It stands as the only indoor, real-snow park in the United States that stays open 365 days a year. Even when New Jersey temperatures soar, the facility maintains a crisp 28°F environment, making it a favorite for local ski enthusiasts and tourists alike.

While mechanical hiccups are rare for the sprawling Route 3 complex, the quick response from the Big Snow team highlights the robust safety protocols in place at one of the world’s largest entertainment centers.
