Hackensack NJ, A terrifying medical emergency in Bergen County has resulted in the arrest of a local man after multiple young children came into contact with lethal doses of fentanyl inside a private residence.
Thanks to the rapid response of Hackensack first responders and the immediate use of opioid-reversal medication, a potential tragedy was narrowly averted, though a young child remains hospitalized.
Unresponsive Child Revived with Narcan by First Responders
The incident unfolded on Sunday, May 24, 2026, just after 8:00 p.m. Hackensack police officers and firefighters rushed to a local home following an urgent report of a pediatric medical emergency.
Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered a child completely unresponsive. Recognizing the symptoms of a severe narcotic overdose, first responders immediately initiated life-saving measures, administering naloxone (commonly known by the brand name Narcan), a fast-acting medication used to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.
The emergency treatment successfully revived the child, who was then rushed via ambulance to a local hospital for ongoing medical care and monitoring.
Investigation Reveals Shocking Multi-Child Exposure
A subsequent joint investigation conducted by local police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office uncovered an even more disturbing reality: the hospitalized child was not the only minor put in extreme danger.
Detectives determined that three children in total had been exposed to the lethal drugs left inside the home. Investigators revealed that:
-
One child swallowed a potent fentanyl pill, causing the initial unresponsive state.
-
A second child placed another fentanyl pill directly into their mouth but fortunately spat it out before it could be ingested.
-
A third child also came into physical contact with the scattered illicit pills.
Authorities determined that the narcotics had been left completely unsecured and in an open area easily accessible to the young children.
Hackensack Man Faces Severe Child Endangering Charges
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, authorities officially arrested 34-year-old Hackensack resident Oluwatobi “Tobi” A. Bamisile in connection with the incident.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced that Bamisile has been hit with multiple criminal counts reflecting the number of children put in harm’s way. He has been charged with:
-
Three counts of Fentanyl Possession
-
Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child
Following his arrest, Bamisile was processed and remanded to the Bergen County Jail, where he is currently being held while awaiting his first scheduled appearance in the Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
