Paramus NJ, A traffic accident involving a teenager on an electric bicycle and a Tesla has prompted an ongoing investigation by local authorities in Paramus, New Jersey.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, June 9, just after 6:00 PM, highlighting growing concerns surrounding intersection safety and alternative transportation in suburban neighborhoods.
The Details of the Collision
According to Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti, a gray Tesla driven by a 50-year-old resident of neighboring Ridgewood was traveling westbound on West Ridgewood Avenue. As the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Roosevelt Boulevard, the vehicle collided with an oncoming e-bike.
The cyclist, a 15-year-old boy from Paramus, had been riding eastbound on the West Ridgewood Avenue sidewalk before entering the crosswalk at the intersection where the impact took place.
Injuries and Immediate Response
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that the teenager’s injuries were not life-threatening. The boy sustained a moderate wrist injury and was transported to The Valley Hospital in Paramus for medical evaluation and treatment.
The driver of the Tesla remained at the intersection immediately following the crash and is fully cooperating with local law enforcement.
Ongoing Traffic Safety Investigation
As of the initial police press release, no summonses or traffic citations have been issued to either party. However, the teenager’s e-bike was officially impounded by police to be examined as a routine part of the protocol.
The incident remains under active investigation by the Paramus Police Traffic Safety Unit as they review right-of-way rules regarding sidewalk riding and crosswalk entry for electric bicycles in the borough.

A bicycle is a VEHICLE and does not have right of way at a crosswalk. In order to have ROW, the rider must dismount and walk as a normal pedestrian would.
Sidewalks and crosswalks are for pedestrians, not for bicycles.
That’s why they are called sideWALKS and crossWALKS.
