Wyckoff NJ, Finding clean, safe drinking water shouldn’t be a waiting game. While water utilities across the United States scramble to meet strict new federal regulations, one New Jersey supplier is quietly crushing its goals.

Ridgewood Water has officially brought its 7th PFAS Treatment Facility online, marking a massive milestone in public health, environmental engineering, and community safety.

The Ames Facility: A Milestone for Wyckoff Water Quality

The newly operational Ames PFAS Treatment Facility in Wyckoff, NJ isn’t just any local upgrade—it is one of Ridgewood Water’s four largest treatment hubs.

Designed to blend seamlessly into the local community, the facility is housed in a residential-style building. But inside, it holds a powerhouse filtration setup: six massive granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels.

  • Current Status: The facility is actively treating water from two of its seven local wells.

  • Next Steps: The remaining five wells are scheduled to be brought online over the coming weeks.

  • Total Capacity: At full scale, the Ames facility can purify up to 2.16 million gallons of water per day.

Surpassing the EPA: Achieving “Undetectable” PFAS Levels

In early 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established a strict National Primary Drinking Water Regulation for forever chemicals, setting the maximum contaminant level (MCL) at 4 parts per trillion (ppt) for key PFAS compounds.

Ridgewood Water isn’t just trying to pass the test—they are aiming for a perfect score.

By the end of 2026, 11 of Ridgewood Water’s 12 planned PFAS treatment facilities are expected to be fully operational. The filtering technology will reduce all regulated PFAS compounds in your treated water to undetectable levels, completely defying and surpassing the EPA’s 4 ppt standard.

Ahead of Schedule, Ahead of the Curve

Typically, major infrastructure overhauls face bureaucratic delays and multi-year extensions. The EPA has given utilities until 2031 to comply with the new forever chemical restrictions.

Ridgewood Water is on track to finish the job four years early:

  • End of 2026: 11 of 12 facilities online.

  • Early 2027: The 12th and final facility becomes fully operational.

Once the final switch is flipped early next year, this systemwide infrastructure project will bring the entire network into full compliance, providing a blueprint for public utilities nationwide.

  1. Is this article a cut and paste from KK?

  2. I wish would help the taste of the water, in the summer.
I believe Ridgewood buts water from one of the reservoirs since they cannot pump enough in the summer. Worse for cooking….
