Multi-State Luxury Heist Ring Unraveled: Maryland Man Gets 5 Years for $2.1M Designer Handbag Burglaries

Englewood , N.J. — A high-stakes commercial burglary ring targeting high-end consignment shops across five states including Englewood  has come to an end. Dominique Hayes, 30, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was sentenced to 60 months (5 years) in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Esther Salas in Newark federal court.

In addition to his prison sentence, Hayes was ordered to pay $2,167,688 in restitution for his role in a sophisticated, multi-state theft operation. Hayes previously pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to receive stolen property.

Midnight Sledgehammer Raids Target Designer Goods

Court documents reveal that Hayes and his co-conspirators were responsible for at least 18 commercial burglaries between March 2024 and November 2024. The ring operated across five states:

• New Jersey

• New York

• Pennsylvania

• Maryland

• Delaware

How the Ring Operated

The crew specifically targeted luxury consignment boutiques under the cover of night. Using sledgehammers and heavy tools, the burglars smashed through doors and windows, inflicting heavy property damage before making off with dozens of high-value designer handbags and luxury goods.

Several boutiques were struck multiple times, leading to aggregate losses exceeding $2 million. Once stolen, the designer goods were trafficked across state lines and sold on the secondary market.

Multi-Agency Investigation Brings Down the Theft Ring

The successful prosecution followed a massive multi-jurisdictional investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) – Newark, under Acting Special Agent in Charge Spiros Karabinas, and U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.

Dozens of state and local law enforcement agencies assisted in tracking down the burglary ring, including the New Jersey State Police, Delaware State Police, Philadelphia Police Department, Prince George’s County Police, and local police departments across New Jersey and New York.
