Teaneck NJ, Two additional Walgreens locations in Bergen County, New Jersey, are preparing to permanently close their doors as part of the retail pharmacy giant’s ongoing corporate restructuring and footprint optimization strategy.
According to company updates, the following locations will be shutting down:

Dumont: 406 E. Madison Ave. (Closing by September 3)
Prescription Transfers and Patient Support Options
To prevent disruptions in medication access, Walgreens confirmed that customer prescriptions will be automatically transferred to nearby locations following the closures:

Bogota Prescriptions: Automatically transferred to the Walgreens at 520 Cedar Lane in Teaneck.

Dumont Prescriptions: Automatically transferred to the Walgreens at 241 N. Washington Ave. in Bergenfield.
In an official statement provided to NJBIZ, a Walgreens spokesperson emphasized that affected employees are being offered opportunities to transition to other nearby locations. Additionally, patients impacted by these closures will be eligible for free prescription delivery for 90 days following their store’s shutdown.

The Broader Context: Walgreens’ Shrinking Retail Footprint
These local store closures stem from a broader turnaround plan announced in June 2024, under which the Illinois-based pharmacy chain set out to shutter roughly 1,200 underperforming locations nationwide over a three-year window.
Since initiating the restructuring, the company’s total store count has dropped from around 8,600 to approximately 8,000 nationwide. Across New Jersey, the footprint has contracted from over 190 locations down to around 180.
The restructuring follows the August 2025 acquisition of Walgreens by New York-based private equity firm Sycamore Partners in a $10 billion deal, taking the pharmacy chain private. The company continues to focus on optimizing core pharmacy operations and reallocating resources to high-performing retail hubs.
