Hackensack Man Arrested at Valley Hospital Following Violent Phone Threats

Paramus NJ, A 44-year-old Hackensack man is in custody after allegedly making violent threats to The Valley Hospital in Paramus, triggering an immediate law enforcement response on Tuesday morning, August 4.

According to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti, officers responded to the hospital located at 4 Valley Health Plaza around 10:53 a.m. after security reported two alarming telephone calls.

During one of the interactions, the caller told staff, “Tell them to have their guns ready,” prompting an immediate security investigation.

Fast Investigation Leads to On-Site Arrest

Detectives with the Paramus Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau quickly traced the cell phone used to place the calls to Rashaune A. Herbert of Hackensack.

Officers located Herbert directly on the premises of The Valley Hospital, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Herbert was transported to Paramus Police headquarters, served with a criminal complaint, and remanded to the Bergen County Jail. He faces a second-degree charge of creating a false public alarm. The investigation was led by Sgt. Dan DeRienzo alongside local detectives.

Court records indicate Herbert has an extensive record of prior law enforcement contact across New Jersey:

• 2024 (Englewood): Pending harassment charge alleging communication made “in a manner to cause alarm.”

• 2024 (New Brunswick): Disorderly conduct case.

• 2020 (Hackensack): Simple assault charge (disposed).

• 2011 (Hackensack): Resisting arrest charge (disposed).

• Motor Vehicle Violations: Multiple offenses dating back to 2009, including driving with a suspended license.

Paramus police emphasized that threats directed at emergency medical facilities or public safety operations are taken with extreme severity. Chief Guidetti reiterated that statements intended to induce fear or disrupt vital healthcare functions will be fully investigated and prosecuted to the highest degree.
