Village of Ridgewood Fire Department will hold open house

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Fire Department Association invites all residents to attend its family oriented annual Open House this Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This is a free event and will be held at the main fire headquarters on East Glen Avenue.
According to Ridgewood Fire Chief James Van Goor.Ridgewood paid and volunteer firefighters will demonstrate a variety of firefighting techniques, including vehicle extrication, putting out a vehicle fire, and rappelling from the fire tower.( https://www.northjersey.com/news/228339281_Ridgewood_Fire_Department_to_hold_open_house.html#sthash.ACSLm67q.dpuf )
Visitors can also see how sprinklers systems work inside a special trailer exhibit as well as learn proper techniques for using fire extinguishers and putting out grease fires. Doughnuts and cider will be served. For more information, call 201-444-4226.
The Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Department is looking for new volunteer members.Volunteer firefighters assist members of the career department at major fires, during storms or anytime the on-duty shift needs additional personnel at an emergency scene.
All training and equipment will be provided by the fire department at no cost to the individual.Volunteer firefighters attend training drills once a week on Monday evenings from 7 to 9PM.
To be a volunteer firefighter, applicants must be at least age 18, live or work in Ridgewood, hold a valid New Jersey Driver’s License and be prepared to commit the necessary time and effort involved in being a volunteer firefighter.
