RIDGEWOOD — There is one way the village can try to control traffic in and out of The Valley Hospital if a massive expansion plan is allowed to go forward, a traffic engineer told the planning board this week.

Parking spaces should be restricted to 1,600, fewer than the 1,698 currently available, said Gordon Meth, an engineer from RBA Group in Parsippany. That would ensure employees park off-site and reduce the number of vehicles using hospital driveways, especially during peak shift-change times.

Meth offered a few other changes to the hospital’s proposed plan including putting a traffic signal at the intersection of East Glen Avenue and North Van Dien Avenue/Red Birch Drive instead of making it an all-way stop.

  1. Finally a solution for some Valley obstructionists regulars to agree with.

  2. thanks #1. who will police the employees to make sure they don’t park in the hospital lot? where exactly is the offsite parking? parking alone is a major problem yet parking is the least objectionable part of the entire plan. Enough with Valley send them packing and put the 90′ baseball field there.

  3. Not really. If you were at the meeting you would have picked up on at least two things that the presenter should have, at the very least, mentioned.

First, if you are going to address the issues with John St., why would you not mention Steilen ? Let’s face it, even the Valley employees who use it every day to get around the light on N. Pleasant, and the line of traffic on Linwood, would have been interested in that ! I mean the street only exits onto Linwood about 50ft. from the Valley entrance, so why would you not even mention it ?

Second, neither this gentleman, or Valley’s expert, addressed the very real problem of sun glare on both Linwood and Glen. Unless they know something the rest of us don’t, both of these roads will continue to run east and west. If they are a problem now, which they are, why would they not be a larger traffic problem during and after construction ?

  4. Another “expert” telling how it could be done, not IF SHOULD be done
